K. Wally Bear answers the mail pouch

I think your policy of always using the full name of a college is in interesting. Roger Revelle, John Muir and Earl Warren deserve recognition. But Melissa Third?
Lisa Archer
Melissa Third College

Lisa,
Thank you for asking. It is a Koala policy to refer to each college by its full name. "Third College,” however, is too generic. It is not in sync with the other campus monikers. We decided to give Third College a full name. Melissa sounded nice
Ed.

How could Mark Finkler drool over Clark Gable's pictures like that? Gable was the worst.
Bob Fenner
Earl Warren College

Bob,
We don't have a Mark Finkler an our staff, but you're right Gable was the worst.
Ed.

How many people in this university went to the Clash concert over the summer? I've seen a great number of t-shirts.
Steve Wilson
John Muir College

Steve,
92 people wear, or have worn Clash t-shirts, 83 of whom attended the concert.
Ed.

How come I never see anything about Italian baseball in the paper? It's a fast-paced and exciting game, and I'd like to know more about it. The Mesa Press runs articles on Italian baseball.
Andrew Wright
Melissa Third College

Andrew,
See below
Ed

I'm interested in writing articles for The Koala. Who do I contact? Where do I go? Do I need any experience? Are there any positions available?
Enrique Silvio
Melissa Third Collage

Enrique,
You ask a tot of questions. Yes, we need people to work on various areas of our publication. Please call 452-2985 and leave a message with your name, phone number arid the type of writing you would like to do. No experience necessary.
Ed.

Mark Finkler is too good to be wasting his time on stories about old movies. Why don't you assign a writer of that caliber to something important, like sports?
Duke Shirley
Earl Warren College

Duke,
We don't have a Mark Finkler on our staff. Why is your last name so feminine?
Ed.

Those signs, you know? The yellow ones that tell you what buildings and rooms are in the area. Well, I couldn't help noticing one in front of Melissa Third College that read “Lecture Halls.” Lecture Halls?
Lisa Steinman
Roger Revelle College

Lisa,
Welt we what we can do.
Ed.

I’d like to know who exactly is answering these letters. Is it some guy named Ed? I’ve had just about enough of these snotty responses. Who do you think you are anyway?
Sam Plisken
John Muir College

Sam,
Sometimes we may appear "snotty" when responding to less than intelligent questions. But if you'll notice comprehensive questions are answered accordingly. Letters are answered by whichever Koala staff member is on duty.
Ed.

I heard a sick Koala joke the other day. Do you want to hear it?
Mark Simpson
Roger Revelle College

Mark,
No.
Ed.

Can you settle a bet? My friend says Ronny Johnston led the UCSD football team in receptions last year. I thought for sure it was Mac Sampson.
Ted Kelleher
Earl Warren College

Herman,
We regret to inform you that you’re both wrong. Johnston broke his leg halfway through the season and caught two passes. Sampson was a defensive back. Mike Murray led the UCSD Koala football team in receptions with 32.
Ed.

What’s this about Steve Garvey coming to the Padres? I think he would be a great addition to the San Diego sports scene.
William Strummer
John Muir College

Bill,
We’ll check into it. There is also a rumor that Ron Cey is heading south Let's hope not.
Ed.

I really enjoyed Mark Finkler’s piece an old movies. Being a movie butt myself, I can relate to his enthusiasm about seeing "Gone With the Wind" over and over. I've seen it sixteen times and each time it gets better.
Laura Gedman
John Muir College

Laura,
Sorry but we don't have a Mark Finkler on our staff, and we can't stand "Gone With the Wind."
Ed.

While walking across campus the other day, somebody I didn't even know came up to me and gave me a compliment about my dress and wished me a nice weekend. Where do these nice people come from?
Christine Allan
John Muir College

Christine,
That was a new member of our friendly Koala staff, Jonathan Mulrooney, and he reportedly comes from Bishop, Ca.
Ed.

Who is your favorite baseball team?
Mark Swain

Mark,
The 1937 Chicago Cubs. Chicago was close in 1937 but not close enough. The Cubs finished in second place under manager Charlie Grimm The New York Giants finished in first by two and a half games. Nonetheless it was a good year for Wrigley Park inhabitants. Right fielder Frank Demaree led the team with 115 RBIs while right-handed starter Tex Charleton had a 16-8 record and a 3.15 ERA.
Ed

When's your next issue coming out?
Aziz, Mohan
Roger Revelle College

Aziz,
Today.
Ed.

Just checking in. Did I get any mail?
Mark Finkler
Melissa Third College
