From the Editor's Desk

Yes, it's finally here! The Koala's Comic Book issue, without a doubt, the longest, most colorful, most ambitious Koala ever to hit the streets (and, I must add, the most expensive—ouch, you should see our printing bill). This issue is sure to be an instant collector's item, so instead of leaving it next to your toilet, store it properly in one of those plastic covers and hide it from your rambunctious roommates.

OK, I know what you are all going to say. . . where's all the lists, where's the Section of the Week, and most importantly, WHERE'S THE PERSONALS?! Sorry, campers, but we wanted to break from tradition and concentrate on showcasing some of the best, if not the best, artists and illustrators on campus, and not pander to all you lovesick, horny bastards out there. But don't worry, we did save all dem nasty personals and will run them next issue. And hey, if you really think about it, nobody officially put us in charge of your lousy sex lives, so I really don't even feel guilty about axing the page. Not in the least, so there!

Well, maybe I should get on with giving credit where credit is due for everyone who put together this issue. I can hardly thank Waypa, 'cause all he did for weeks was sit around, look stupid, and say in a pre-recorded voice, "Ask Huff, I don't know anything, ask Huff." No, seriously, Waypa and Monty were big helps when it came down to crunch time. The ads and letters are their doing, so shower them with the appropriate amount of lavish, sloppy kisses. I would also like to thank, believe it or not, the Guardian for their encouragement, photo paper, and stat camera, which we monopolized forthe better part of a week. Really, guys, the check is in the mail.

But most of all, I would like to send out my undying appreciation for all the talented artists who worked through numerous bouts of writer's cramps and slaved their proverbial fannies off to make it possible for this issue to see the light. We couldn't have done it without you (ooh, good one Greg). One masochist in particular, Mr. Quan, spent something like 40 hours behind the Mac on only one hour of sleep between Tue and Wed. Yep, we'll make true Koala staffers out of these artists yet.

Other news, during the first week of July, you lucky students will have the opportunity to attend not one, but two Koala sponsored events! First, the Belly-UpTavern loves us so much that, yes, we are going to do it AGAIN before the end of the quarter. The Koala Night at the Belly-Up III is set for June 6, stay posted for further details. Also, on June 8, the Koala will be presenting a video/slide presentation in Peterson Hall loosely titled "No Class: The Koala Looks At UCSD Students At Work, At Play, At Large." It's sure to take the prize at the next Cannes film festival, so check it out.

By the way, I'd now like to abuse the power of the press. I lost a blue sweatshirt with shoulderpads that says UCSD Volleyball in yellow stitched letters on the front in the Rec. Gym last week. If you picked it up, leave a note by the Koala's office or call 534-4735 and ask for Huff the Knucklehead.

The Koala's Comic Book Issue. Sigh. What do you think, should we do it again next year?
