Koala Night

Koala night is a long tradition. We have no idea when the first Koala night was. We do know that this event used to be a regular event. Some old Koala Nights were held at the now defunct Kahuna's on Turquoise in PB. We also know that No Doubt did play at a Koala night.

Koala Night 2001

For Koala night September 26th, 2001 we had Hornswaggled, The Booty Boys, and Celsius play live. The DJ club vamped the crowd. We topped the night off with a wet t-shirt contest (click for boobie pictures!) . The prizes ranged from free day spa trips to a quarterly A parking permit. To top it off we all received the following letter:

Letter from UCSD

Koala Night 2002

Our second attempt at bringing some fun to campus bought us the following letter from our advisor. I love how worried the school administrators are about "group contact."

Koala staff,

I want Koala Night tonight to be as successful as it can be. Therefore, I want to make sure that all Koala staff are aware of the license and management concerns of the Porter's Pub Staff.  I am not expecting that any of these issues will come up, and I want to make sure parameters and the reasons for them are clear.

I spoke with Rob Porter yesterday, who's primary interest is that his liquor license does not get threatened or revoked.  Based on the legal requirements to keep his liquor license, he has instituted the following restrictions.

First, as I told George yesterday, all bathing suits and clothing must remain on, and must not get wet.  Nudity in any form is prohibited according to license restrictions.  George assured me that this would not be a problem.

No "group contact" or "simulated sexual acts" are permitted.

The event will be canceled if the members of the Koala promote, encourage or allow restricted behavior at the event.

Security will handle issues as they arise.

If more than one infringement occurs and/or the host organization is not cooperative, the event will be canceled.

Before they leave, security will be required to completely clear the building.

Alcohol will be provided in the Pub, which will be restricted to those 21 years of age or older.  No under aged drinking will be permitted.

I would like to include principal members of the Koala in the pre-event security meeting with Porter's management, security, myself, and the University Centers House Manager that takes place prior to the event so that everyone is on the same page regarding these terms and conditions for a successful event.  I will see you at Porters at 7:30.

Thank you!
